Please note on your check that this is for The Eagles.

This magnificent bronze sculpture, a pair of eagles, wings unfurled, golden beaks engaged in conversation stands over seven feet tall, is almost six feet wide and weighs in at over 600 pounds. They are presently on display in the lobby of the MICA office building at the Mutual of Omaha Bank at 1770 San Marco Road. Please stop by and witness their strength and majesty in person!

The Marco Island Civic Association (MICA) and Marco Island Foundation for the Arts (MIFA) will permanently place The Double Eagle Sculpture in front of MICA’s Sarazen Park next year, located on Collier Boulevard across from the South Beach access, to remain on permanent public display.

The quality and craftsmanship of this piece are unparalleled, with beautiful, subtle patinas worthy of these symbols of our nation. It will endure our salt air and give pleasure to residents for many years to come.

The theme of double eagles is appropriate for this park which honors golf legend Gene Sarazen, who was the first to shoot a “double eagle” during a Masters’ Tournament. The Double Eagles, as a patriotic symbol for our country are also appropriate for our island as a tribute to the many veterans that call Marco home. The Double Eagles are appropriate for Marco which also home to Paleo and Calusa, the residents pair of eagles that inhabit the Eagle Sanctuary on our island.

The Boards of Directors of MICA and MIFA enthusiastically agreed to place this sculpture at this location and provide temporary funding of $30,000 for acquisition and installation. The next challenge facing our two organizations is to accept donations from members and the community at large to fund the sculpture and provide future funding for its maintenance.
